Cutting Electricity Bills – With a Focus on Grid Tariffs

How We Help Commercial Buildings Cut Energy Costs – and CO₂ Emissions
At Qubit Energy, we focus on one clear mission: helping commercial and industrial buildings optimize energy use for both financial savings and environmental impact.
Real-Time Data for Smarter Decisions
Our approach is data-driven. We use sensors, such as HAN-sensors connected to AMS meters, to collect real-time data. We also read data from ElHub and other available sources. Real-time data offers a significant advantage — it allows us to detect faults in equipment like ventilation systems that may switch on and off erratically. These issues often go unnoticed when monitoring in hourly or 15-minute intervals but become clear when analyzing data minute-by-minute.
Cutting Electricity Bills – With a Focus on Grid Tariffs
An electricity bill generally consists of two parts: energy consumption and grid tariffs. In commercial buildings, grid tariffs can represent a large portion of the total cost, mainly due to the demand charges included in the tariff structure.
That’s why we’ve focused especially on reducing peak demand to lower these grid fees.
Our process starts with a building health check — collecting insights, analyzing consumption patterns, and creating a roadmap with predictive strategies. This includes forecasting power peaks 24 to 48 hours ahead, or even further, which is crucial during seasonal transitions when temperature and weather fluctuate significantly.
AI-Based Forecasting in Collaboration with IFE
In partnership with the Institute for Energy Technology (IFE), we’ve developed advanced algorithms to predict upcoming power peaks. By combining real-time measurements, weather forecasts, historical usage data, and geographic information, our AI models generate accurate predictions and timely alerts.
These alerts can be used by facility managers and technicians as needed. They can also be integrated into existing Energy Management Systems (EMS) or Building Management Systems (BMS) to enable automated control and response.
Open Integration and Industry Partnerships
We provide flexible integrations through open APIs. Partners delivering BMS or EMS solutions can work with us in different ways:
White-label solutions built on top of their existing platforms
API integrations to send data to our interface and receive forecasts and recommendations
Customized solutions tailored to specific client needs and use cases
We believe in collaboration to build a smarter, more sustainable energy future.
What Can You Save?
A typical modern commercial building of over 50,000 m² can have an annual electricity bill exceeding NOK 200,000, where one-third to half may be grid tariffs alone. By flattening peak loads, our solutions have shown the potential to reduce grid-related costs by over 20% — unlocking hundreds of thousands in yearly savings.
That’s money that can be reinvested into core operations. But just as important is the societal benefit — by reducing peak demand, we help unburden the power grid during critical hours and cut CO₂ emissions.
